NEWSPRINT MANAGER

 

The Newsprint Manager is a Windows based integrated system for tracking newsprint inventory from mill shipment to final usage. Information may enter the system through electronically transmitted mill shipment manifests, bar-code scanning of individual rolls, keyboard data input, or any combination of these methods. The system is designed to provide current information on newsprint availability and location, as well as periodic inventory valuation, purchases, usage and waste reports.

The system provides security to allow only authorized operators access to its various features.

THE NEWSPRINT MANAGER - SYSTEM OVERVIEW

INCOMING SHIPMENTS:  The mill shipment process includes recording the shipment of rolls listed on a manifest provided by the supplier, holding those rolls ‘in transit’ status, then recording the receipt of the rolls and their placement in a defined inventory location, such as a warehouse.

INTERNAL TRANSFERS:  The system provides for optional tracking of changes in the physical location of on‑hand rolls, such as movement from an off‑site warehouse to an internal stock room or the pressroom.

PRESS USAGE: Roll usage is reported by date, product, and optional press, press unit, reel arm and operator.  Data entry may be through the keyboard or bar‑code reader.  The rolls used are mark used, and the daily usage is recorded for future reporting.

RECORDING WASTE AND OTHER NON‑USAGE DISPOSAL: Waste is reported by weight, in user‑defined categories.  Entries may be made daily, or less frequently as required for periodic reports.  Unused rolls may be removed from inventory by assignment to user‑defined disposal categories.  Rolls not accounted for during physical inventory may be reported in this manner, as well as sales, damage returns, etc.

REPORTS: A set of standard reports is provided.  These reports may be based on selected periods or dates as appropriate.

MAINTENANCE: The definitions and options that customize the system for your newspaper are set up and maintained through table maintenance.
